History of Wine Making in Syria

Syria has been the land of wine and beer making since the dawn of civilizations.

At 3000 bc and earlier Sumerians crafted one of the first beers in the world's history.

Romanians sang, danced and drank wine on Syrian lands.

They chose the mountains of Suweida city to plant their vines because its cool climate is great for viticulture. The fineness of their wine made them call the city Dionisos the Greek god of grapes wine.

Not only the name of the company was inspired by the city but following them and on the same mountains we planted our vines. We still have Greek wine presses in our vineyards.

Later on with the invention of the copper alembic Syrians distilled white wines and flavored it with aniseed seeds from the pimpinela anisum. They called the tripple distilled spirit Arak. Until today Arak is enjoyed with every meal and celebration.
